Clean your railing at least twice a year with mild, non-abrasive soap and water using a soft sponge, rinsing thoroughly with fresh water. In coastal or industrial areas, clean more often.
- Avoid dry sponges that can scratch.
- Use regular glass cleaner for glass panels.
- Remove minor scuffs with gentle cleaners like Soft Scrub or Vim.
- For paint or sealant spots, use Methylated Spirits, Turpentine, White Spirits, or Isopropanol.
- Remove sap, tree seeds, and bugs promptly to prevent staining.
- Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasives, steel wool, and industrial cleaners, which can damage the finish.
Always test any product on a small, hidden area first.
The only other deck maintenance for Duradek vinyl decks besides cleaning is your annual inspection. It is the homeowner’s responsibility to inspect the caulking used to seal around posts, pillars, corners, vents, drains, and any other area of the deck that has caulking.
Over time, the structure to which the vinyl sheeting is applied can crack, shrink or shift which can break the caulking seal. A yearly inspection will uncover such a problem and your Duradek contractor can recommend or supply the proper sealant to correct it.
